Earlier this week, TikTok users began using a herbal formula called ParaGuard to get rid of parasites, and the trend quickly went viral.

Some of the app’s other questionable health trends include whitening your teeth with hydrogen peroxide and drinking liquid Chlorophyll, and now there’s a new one to add to the mix.

TikTok users consume L-Tyrosine as ‘Natural Adderall’

TikTok’s latest viral health trend involves consuming an amino acid called L-Tyrosine, as users are claiming it gives the same effects as Adderall.

Adderall is a prescription drug that is primarily used to treat ADHD or narcolepsy.

It’s a mixture of dextroamphetamine and amphetamine that alters the natural chemicals in your brain and improves hyperactivity, impulsive behavior, and attention span.

You can’t consume Adderall unless you have been prescribed it by a healthcare professional, but TikTok users think they’ve found an alternative.

It’s an amino acid called L-Tyrosine which you can buy over the counter in supplement form. Like Adderall, it can improve memory, thinking skills and concentration.

Is it safe?

As with all TikTok healthcare trends, the first question you have to ask yourself is ‘is it safe?’.

According to Healthline, it is safe to use L-Tyrosine to improve alertness and attention. The Food and Drug Administration says that it is “generally recognized as safe”.

However, as with all supplements, you should take it with caution and be aware of the side effects. You should be especially careful when mixing it with certain medications, particularly anti-depressants.

Does it work?

L-Tyrosine will react differently with everyone, but many TikTok users claim that the supplement successfully improved their mood and focus.

One TikTok user called @chelsando outlined her one-week review of taking L-Tyrosine and said that it made her “happier”, gave her “energy” and even made her “tan more”.

“You guys, buy this. I cannot even describe to you how much this has changed my life. I’ve only been on this for four days and I’m so productive, I get so much done, I have so much more energy, I’m sleeping better, I’m waking up earlier,” another TikTok user said.

The reviews speak for themselves, but the only way to know if it truly works is to take it yourself.

When trying a new supplement, remember to always read the safety leaflet and be aware of any side effects.
