A comeback, first-round submission, and a hilarious interaction with Joe Rogan, led to a highly memorable first UFC victory for Vanessa Demopoulos over Silvana Gomez Juarez at UFC 270.
Victory never tasted sweeter for Vanessa Demopoulos.
Despite getting rocked and nearly losing her fight with Silvana Gomez Juarez in quick fashion, Demopoulos managed to pull off an amazing comeback submission win at UFC 270.
“It’s so dope,” Demopoulos said. “It’s so amazing to do the things that you’re doing in the gym every day and see them play out when you’re doing them in the ring, it was a beautiful feeling.”
And that wasn’t the end, as her celebration proved to be quite the talking part after doing the splits and jumping into the arms of UFC commentator Joe Rogan.
“That part I did plan — I wanted to do that so badly,” she said. “I’m so glad that he was welcoming to it.”

The good feelings almost didn’t happen, however. Juarez cracked Demopoulos not long into the opening round, dropping Demopoulos and landing some ground-and-pound, which Demopoulos hinted had her knocked out of the fight for a second.
But Demopoulos was able to battle back and transitioned well, managing to ensure Juarez was in her guard before locking up her arm and scoring the impressive armbar submission victory.
“As soon as I felt that I had her arm laced, and I knew that she was in my guard, it was over. I knew exactly what you do; that’s something I’ve worked on time and time again.
“That was second nature to me. Armbars are my thing.”
