LISTING OF THE DAY
Location: San Marino Island, Miami Beach, Florida
Price: US$19.9 million
This contemporary house on Miami’s San Marino Island has 105 feet of water frontage and open bay views. It has a dock and jetty, an elevated, glass-fronted lap pool and nestles within a tropical garden.
The glass house was designed for a semi-retired couple by architect Peter Bohlin, whose firm, Bohlin Cywinski Jackson, designed Apple’s well-known glass-cube storefronts. It shares their minimalist look but has fun elements mixed in—think California Zen-style meets Miami party house.
Selling agent Julian Johnston said that the owners wanted the property to feel “boat-like and have an on-the-water feel,” so they “gave it glass walls and put the deck at the side of the property rather than the rear in order to give the [primary] bedroom suite an uninterrupted view of the water,” he said.

The coolest feature, though, has to be the elevated, infinity-edge pool, which has sweeping bay views from its front glass panel. It also has a glass floor panel that looks down onto a colonnaded walkway.
Inside the property, there is a luxury interior with light wood furnishings, limestone floor tiles and high ceilings on both floors. It is bathed in natural light and has all-round views of the bay and the Miami skyline. Meanwhile, outdoor decks and balconies are accessed through glass sliding doors and provide extensive entertaining space.
The 5,000-square-foot house has four bedrooms, five and a half bathrooms including a primary bedroom suite with two baths and walk-in closets, and a guest bedroom/office wing. It has an open-plan kitchen, dining room and living room, and an open staircase linking its two floors and an attached double garage. It has a gated drive, tropical gardens and lies on a 12,906 square foot plot.

The San Marino Island property has a series of outdoor lounge areas, including a roof deck, which is accessed from the garden via white stucco concrete stairs.
It also has an end-of-garden dock on which the owner moors a 70-foot boat. It has a nearly 70-foot lap pool. Its open-plan kitchen has a large, two-sink island.
The garage has a double-height ceiling, meaning it could be fitted with a hydraulic lift for storing two additional cars.

San Marino Island is an oval-shaped, man-made island and neighborhood in the city of Miami Beach, between the Biscayne Bay and the Atlantic Ocean, and part of a chain known as the Venetian Islands. The property lies in a relaxed location, Mr. Johnston said.
It is centrally located, close to Miami Design District on the mainland, which has a hub for art galleries and fashion house stores by Valentino, Miu Miu, and Burberry, Mr. Johnston added.
Miami Beach itself is known for its beaches, buzzing nightspots and top eateries.
