Electric car manufacturer, Tesla has been around for 18 years, debuting its first cars 13 years ago.

The California company has just four dealerships in Pennsylvania, two in the Philadelphia area and two in the Pittsburgh area.

The closest Tesla dealership to the midstate is in the King of Prussia area.

But, not for much longer.

A building permit was issued to Lemoyne-based Presbyterian Development to construct a Tesla car dealership at the former Noland property at 6458 Carlisle Pike, Ray Palmer, the township manager of Silver Spring Township confirmed.

It’s not clear when the dealership will open, officials from Tesla could not immediately be reached for comment.

A final land development plan for the dealership was approved by township commissioners back in March.

Tesla will be the latest in a long list of cars available on the Carlisle Pike. There is no shortage of automotive dealerships on the busy Cumberland County road.

There are several preowned dealerships and numerous new car dealerships.

The choices are many – from Nissan, Ford, Toyota and Mitsubishi to BMW, Maserati, Audi, Porsche, Lexus, Mercedes-Benz and more. And there is also a Harley Davidson motorcycle dealership as well.

The new 46,000-square-foot Tesla dealership will be located between ABC West Lanes and Appalachian Brewing Company Mechanicsburg.
