Team GB’s Dina Asher-Smith fails to qualify for the 100m final

Great Britain medal hope Dina Asher-Smith failed to qualify for the 100m women’s final at Tokyo 2020.

Asher-Smith ran a time of 11.05 seconds in her semifinal, which saw her finish third behind winner Elaine Thompson-Herah and Ajla del Ponte.

Asher-Smith, 25, then faced a nervous wait to see if her time would be enough to go through as one of the two fastest losers.

But it was only quick enough to see her finish out of the top eight and miss out on a spot in the final in the process. Asher-Smith still has the 200m and 4x100m relay to come, but was struggling with a hamstring injury in the build-up to the Olympic Games.
