OpenAI Hit With Seven Suits Over ChatGPT’s Harm to Mental Health

ChatGPT maker OpenAI Inc. prematurely released a dangerously sycophantic model, according to seven new lawsuits filed Thursday against the organization.

The lawsuits were filed in the Superior Court of California in the San Francisco and Los Angeles Counties. They bring a variety of wrongful death, product liability, consumer protection, and negligence claims based on alleged design defects in Open AI’s GPT-4o model.

The seven plaintiffs’ ages range between 17 and 48. Previous litigation against chatbot makers had focused on harms to minors.

OpenAI didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
