OpenAI is recruiting a new group of undergraduate student organizers across the US and Canada to join its ChatGPT Lab, expanding a program that feeds real campus AI use cases back into product development.

In a LinkedIn post, ChatGPT for Education said: “We’re looking for AI-curious student leaders to join the next ChatGPT Lab cohort in US & Canada.” The post noted that students at more than 70 universities have already participated in the Lab’s “100 Chats” project and that a new wave of organizers will help update it with current campus use cases.

OpenAI builds campus AI feedback network

The ChatGPT Lab connects undergraduate students with OpenAI to document how ChatGPT is being used in everyday academic contexts. Organizers host peer-led events, collect stories from students, and share those insights directly with the OpenAI team.

The current network spans more than 70 campuses, including institutions such as Arizona State University, Columbia University, Duke University, the University of Michigan, and Yale University.

Selected organizers will join weekly calls in March and April, host at least one ChatGPT Lab event within their campus community, and spend roughly two to three hours per week gathering and reporting student insights. The role focuses specifically on everyday ChatGPT usage for learning, creativity, and student life, rather than coding or API-based applications.

Organizers receive a six-month ChatGPT Plus subscription, access to a Slack community, public recognition, and resources to support campus events.

From peer conversations to product signals

According to the LinkedIn post, the “100 Chats” project has helped document how students are actually using ChatGPT across campuses. The stated goal is to source “the most valuable, emergent use cases from peer-led gatherings and turning them into stories that help shape how students understand and use AI.”

This structure positions undergraduates not just as users but as contributors to how AI tools evolve. Rather than relying solely on institutional partnerships, OpenAI is tapping directly into peer networks to understand how AI fits into coursework, study routines, and student life.

The next cohort will begin onboarding in early March 2026.
