Huawei and the Artificial Intelligence Association of Thailand conclude Super AI Engineer Season 2, aiming to elevate AI workforce in Thailand

Huawei Technologies (Thailand) Co., Ltd., and the Artificial Intelligence Association of Thailand (AIAT) concluded and announced the winner of the digital skill training program ‘Super AI Engineer Season 2’ on 10 November 2022. The winner of this project gains 150,000 THB cloud credit from Huawei. Furthermore, Huawei will extend the third-year collaboration to promote Thai developer ecosystem and cultivate artificial intelligence talent pool to support Thailand to become the ASEAN digital hub.

Dr. Chawapol Jariyawiroj, President, Huawei Technologies (Thailand) Co., Ltd., spoke about the awards ceremony of the ‘Super AI Engineer Season 2’ saying that: “On behalf of Huawei, I would like to thank our partners from the education sector, including the Artificial Intelligence Association of Thailand, who gave us the opportunity to participate in Thailand digital talent development initiative. Huawei provides support in two key areas, firstly we share global knowledge and expertise to help increase capability and provide Thai talents with artificial intelligence (AI) technology consultant. Secondly, we provide Huawei Cloud services for participants so they can apply it in training as cloud technology is important in AI development. In addition, Huawei cloud provides high performance service that reaches global standards with minimum latency.”

He added that developing AI technology is like an experiment and cloud technology which has low OPEX value enables low-cost experiment. If the trial result is successful, it can be developed or scaled up rapidly. On the other hand, if the project needs more trials, the cost will be low. “As businesses depend on technology, we are confident that cloud and AI applications will help drive business development,” he said. “In 2021, Huawei invested over $22 billion in research and development and continues to focus on digital workforce development. Huawei will help drive Thailand’s technological advancement by helping Thai talents to create successful AI applications in various industrial sectors. The ‘Super AI Engineer 2022’ training program is one of the driving forces and will build on Huawei’s mission to drive Thailand to become the ASEAN digital hub.”

Mr. Thepchai Supnithi, Vice President, Artificial Intelligence Association of Thailand, commented that: “On behalf of the Artificial Intelligence Association of Thailand, I would like to thank Huawei for supporting cloud service to help participants complete their weekly tasks. We rely on cloud technology to help the training project run smoothly because AI computing requires a lot of computing resource. In addition, Huawei’s cloud is user-friendly, and capable of processing large data very quickly with low latency, suitable for AI applications in healthcare and manufacturing sectors. In addition, Huawei supports 2.2 million THB cloud service value throughout the project and award to the winner with 150,000 THB cloud credit, allowing them to smoothly run business instantly while saving costs.”

He added that the Artificial Intelligence Association of Thailand is collaborating with Huawei to continue the Super AI Engineer training program for the third consecutive year and will start recruiting trainees later this year. AIAT will reach for Huawei’s support on personnel and knowledge to provide Thai talents with training for artificial intelligence applications at the global level. Currently, there is a shortage of skilled workforce in the artificial intelligence (AI) sector in Thailand to meet the market demand. With the growing popularity in Data Science in the financial industry, Image Processing and NLP for chatbot development, we will need more skilled personnel in AI field.

The winner of the Super AI Engineer Season 2 was Mr. Pornratichai Virojanaphutta, CEO of Startup “Indezy”, who successfully designed an AI solution for robots to help replenish retail shelves in True Shop. He emphasized that Huawei’s cloud technology provides high speed service and is easy to use compared to other cloud services. He also thanked Huawei for helping grow machine learning and AI technology communities in Thailand, which help drive the development of ecosystem and inspire other Thai developers to pursue their dreams.

In the first year, the Super AI Engineer training program reached 2,500 trainees. This year of the program (Season 2) reached a total of 5,700 trainees. Throughout the program, 200 participants will be selected and then shortlisted to 10 participants to compete in the real-time final competition to find only one final winner. The first training workshop consists of online training, followed by the second workshop with off-site training sessions and different tasks to solve from the AIAT and private companies each week. Participants will also have an opportunity to work in a private company to gain real-life work experience.
