The latest update to OpenAI’s agentic browser improves memory usage and introduces support for tab groups. See what else is new.
ChaGPT Atlas’ weekly updates are back
Since the release of ChatGPT Atlas last October, OpenAI has been shipping frequent updates to improve usability, and better match other browsers in terms of pro features and UI/UX customization.
After pausing for the holidays, the company has resumed its weekly ChatGPT Atlas releases, with the second update of 2026 now rolling out.
According to Adam Fry, OpenAIU’s product lead for ChatGPT Atlas, users who update to the latest version of the browser will see:
- Tab Groups (they’re slick and you can use emojis)
- Updated search results layout (vertical stacked links)
- “Auto” option for your default search engine to decide between ChatGPT and Google
- Improvements to memory usage, fewer slowdowns
- Quick suggestions for the “Ask ChatGPT” sidebar
- A tremendous amount of polish fixes ranging from page zoom, sharing tabs in video calls, managing your profiles, devtools, shortcuts and more
Among these improvements, tab groups appear to be getting the most traction. Users can either right-click a tab to create a new tab group or send it to an existing one, or they can hold ⌘ while selecting multiple tabs to do the same in bulk.
Fry also says that future ChatGPT Atlas updates will bring “true multiple ChatGPT login support, windows, mobile, agent updates, and much more”.
