A Thanksgiving postcard from way back.

ORLEANS – Too many chefs in the kitchen, tables stretched for more place settings, a crowd around the TV.  These scenes from a typical Thanksgiving live only in our memories this holiday season. The Cape Codder reached out to some readers and contributors, asking how their turkey day gathering will be different this year. Their plans might sound a lot like yours. – Donna Tunney, editor

Al Williams, of Brewster, active volunteer with Friends of Crosby Mansion:

Normally, my wife’s family would travel down from Richmond, Vt., (near Burlington) and arrive on the Cape the day before Thanksgiving.

By then we would have obtained apple and pumpkin pies, including a birthday carrot cake for Gayle’s birthday on Nov. 26. Her family would stay at her home in East Dennis and then come to our home in Brewster on Thanksgiving morning.
