Nicholasville police investigating image circulating on social media – WKYT

NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. (WKYT) – Nicholasville police are investigating a threatening image circulating on social media.

Police tell us it’s a picture of a gun pointed at a safety officer who was directing traffic outside of a high school in Jessamine County. It included the word retaliation.

They say they notified schools as soon as they found out about it Thursday night, but their investigation has led them to believe it’s a threat directed at law enforcement, not toward the schools.

Police have contacted the social media organizations involved to try to figure out where that image originated. They say it was originally a video on Snapchat and that is presenting its own challenges.

“Snapchat creates other challenges because of the design of the app is that things are completed within X amount of time,” said Sgt. Kevin Grimes. “If it’s set up that way. So that created some other hurdles we are having across as well. It’s not something we’re just gonna be able to work on and get overnight.”

Sgt. Grimes said they are working with schools to increase security as a precaution.

The investigation is ongoing.
