Please follow us on social media (Letter from the Editor) – syracuse.com

Dear reader,

Social media has become an integral part of our news operation, and it drives people to visit our website in some fascinating ways. Just this week, for example, we noticed a lot of people were reading a story from 2011 about a house on James Street in Syracuse that was built from a kit purchased from the Sears catalog in the 1920s. We were able to trace the source of that resurgence to a Facebook page about old homes that has more than 2 million followers.

On our Syracuse.com Facebook page we hit a milestone recently of 200,000 followers. I know many of you already follow us there, so thank you for that, but I wanted to let you know about some of our other social media accounts that might fit your specific interests.

For sports fans, we have several offerings that help cut through the clutter to deliver the information you’re most interested in. We have separate Facebook and Twitter accounts for Orange Basketball news (Facebook | Twitter), Orange Football (Facebook | Twitter), Buffalo Bills (Facebook | Twitter), CNY lacrosse (Facebook | Twitter) and high school sports (Facebook | Twitter). If you follow us there, you’ll get all the latest updates on your favorite teams plus videos and photos you might miss otherwise. If hunting and fishing is more your thing, follow our Outdoors Facebook page for the inside scoop from reporter David Figura.

On Instagram, we share beautiful photos of the people and places of Central New York, not just from our very talented staff photographers, but members of the community as well. We do the same for all of Upstate New York on our sister site’s account, NYup.com.

If you consider yourself a foodie, or just want some good suggestions to try something new we have a very active Facebook group called “Where Syracuse Eats” that has grown to almost 7,000 members. We have a corresponding Instagram account if you really just want to see some great food pics.

For video, we have three channels on YouTube. Our main Syracuse.com page has news and features and cool videos taken with our drone. We also have a separate account for all of our Orange sports videos, and NYup, which has more statewide features and a lot of Buffalo Bills content.

As always, we’d like to hear from you. Please email me, tlamonte@syracuse.com or Senior Director of Content John Lammersjlammers@syracuse.com with any feedback or story ideas.

Sincerely,

Trish LaMonte

Editor and VP/Content
