The Airpods Pro are some of the most popular truly wireless headphones for Apple users. However, there are plenty of other wireless earbuds to buy, so you may find yourself questioning whether or not the AirPods Pro are right for you.
To give you well-rounded insight as to whether or not you should buy AirPods Pro, we’ve asked for the honest opinions of our team’s experts when it comes to the Apple’s headphones. Here’s what they recommended.
Why you should buy Apple Airpods Pro
In favor of AirPods Pro, our teammates note the ease and compatibility of them are too good to pass up if you already have Apple technology. Here are the reasons why you should buy AirPods Pros.
Deals editor Tercius Bufete rounds up the best sales and discounts you can find on the internet, especially when it comes to sought-after products such as AirPods Pro. Bufete recommends Airpods Pro for avid Apple users like himself.
“I love how these noise-cancelling headphones seamlessly connect with my devices. They are incredible for the subway and when paired with the Apple TV for some discrete viewing. While I don’t think they are worth the $249 Apple sells them for, they often go on sale for between $180-$200. For that price, the AirPods Pro are a no-brainer.”
Lisa Eadicicco, the Senior Tech Correspondent for Insider Reviews, also believes the Airpods Pro are the right fit for those who already own one of the many available Apple products.
“Like all Apple products, the AirPods Pro are more expensive than most competitors — but they offer a superior experience to match. The AirPods Pro offer top-notch audio quality and noise cancellation, but it’s really the way they integrate with Apple’s iPhone and iPad software makes them the best choice for Apple fans. Not only do they seamlessly sync with Apple mobile devices, but Apple keeps updating them with new features over time with new software releases.”
Cons to consider with Apple Airpods Pro
While some believe the price and compatibility with Apple products is a reason to buy AirPods Pro, other members of the Insider Reviews team consider those to be a downfall of the earbuds.
Senior Editor in Tech & Electronics, Joe Osborne doesn’t find the high price of AirPods Pro worth the gamble if one gets misplaced or broken.
“For someone who frequently loses his AirPods and has accidentally sent them through the wash more than once, AirPods Pro simply aren’t worth the cost if you’re at all absent-minded or accident-prone. I’ve since relegated myself to standard AirPods and may even go to refurbished models if I continue my foolish, klutzy ways.”
Antonio Villas-Boas, a Senior Tech Reporter, says there are better alternatives on the market if you’re going to splurge on earbuds.
“The AirPods Pro are fine, but the main things going for them are their iconic design and seamless integration with the Apple ecosystem. You can get wireless earbuds with better sound quality and noise-cancelling for the money.”
What alternatives should be considered
AirPods Pro might not be the best fit for everyone, so our some of teammates suggest a few alternatives for those looking to still purchase earbuds or headphones.
If you’re already considering spending hundreds of dollars on wireless earbuds, Villas-Boas thinks the better choice are the Jabra Elite 85T — our top pick from reviewing the best wireless earbuds.
“The full price for the AirPods Pro is $250, but you can often find them for around $200. With that in mind, I’m going to suggest the Jabra Elite 85T that usually go for around $180. The Jabra Elite 85T has a superior sound quality and noise-cancelling than the AirPods Pro, and they can connect to multiple devices simultaneously, too, which is one of the defining features in the AirPods Pro. If money is no object, check out the Sony WF-1000XM4 for their unbeatable sound quality and noise-cancelling performance.”
Osborne sticks to earbuds that cost less than AirPods Pro such as the standard AirPods, or headphones that aren’t wireless at all.
“Being an Apple user, I would suggest either the cheaper AirPods models, refurbished versions of those models, or sticking with Lightning cable headphones. Truly wireless headphones just might not be best for some folks that are prone to losing things … like most parents.”
The Jabra Elite 85T have high-end audio quality and noise-cancelling performance for a great price.
The Sony WF-1000XM4 are best-in-class for sound quality and noise cancellation, but they’re best suited for those willing to pay their high price.
