The Kolkata Police has arrested one person in connection with the illegal selling of arms through social media platforms such as Facebook and Whatsapp.

The accused, Kishan Jayswara, 24, sold improvised country-made firearms which were brought in the city from North 24 Parganas, police said.

One improvised country-made single-shooter firearm and one live cartridge measuring about 7.5 cm with “8MM, KF” were from his possession, police said.

Based on social media posts and information by sources, the Kolkata Police registered a case under the Arms Act. According to officials, advertisements for arms sale were also posted on social media platforms, including Facebook.

Police conducted a raid at Bhatpara in North 24 Parganas to nab Kishan Jayswara’s associates. The accused is also allegedly involved in other arms cases.
