A viral video shows the “decontamination routine” of an intensive-care nurse battling the coronavirus — demonstrating the meticulous steps health care workers are taking to stop the the virus spreading.
The Ohio nurse behind the TikTok account @jess_o_saurus filmed herself returning home after a suspected COVID-19 case in her unit.
In her garage, before entering her home, she strips down to “get naked (mostly),” disinfects her phone and keys, and soaks her shoes in bleach overnight, she notes.
“In case anyone was wondering how seriously we ICU nurses are taking this: here is my routine,” said the nurse — who identified herself only as “Jess” to Yahoo Lifestyle, — in the caption of the video.
The clip has racked up more than two million views since its posting Thursday — and it only captured just a small part of the routine, Jess said.
“I sit on a bath towel, place a bath towel on the floor for my shoes, and upon getting out of my car remove both bath towels and then wipe down the surfaces with a sanitizing spray,” she told Yahoo.
“I also wipe down my steering wheel, cup holders, door handles and anything else I may have come in contact with.”
Jess told Yahoo she made the video to illustrate the careful steps nurses and other hospital workers are taking to make sure they aren’t spreading the virus.
“I just wanted the general public to understand that though we are on the front lines of this pandemic, we are not in any way careless in our efforts to prevent the spread. We are all taking the restrictions put upon us very seriously [and] are monitoring our own symptoms on a daily basis,” she said.
“Aside from going to work, getting food or putting gas in our cars, we are adhering firmly to the stay-home mandate.”
